Pakistan plans hemp production with eye on worldwide marijuana market

” This hemp market might provide Pakistan with some $1 billion in the next three years and we are in a procedure of making a full-fledged plan for this purpose,” science and technology minister Fawad Chaudhry informed reporters Wednesday.

Hemp is a type of marijuana plant consisting of cannabidiol (CBD) which advocates say has numerous medical and peaceful homes.

He added that with cotton production in Pakistan decreasing due to numerous elements, hemp supplied farmers with a practical option.

The plant precedes the arrival of Islam in the region, with referral to cannabis appearing in the sacred Hindu Atharva Veda text describing its medical and ritual uses.
